The human body was made to run. For over 2 million years, running was integral to our survival whether we were running to or from our food. It’s not so easy to change our innate biology. Whatever the case, running workouts can help you reach your goals.

Plus, if you follow the tips above, you won’t get burn out of running. Instead of viewing it as a slog, you’ll find yourself excited to go running not just because of the relaxed state you’re in after the run, but because you’re not falling into the pitfalls of following the same, boring route or pushing yourself too hard during a run. Even if you do miss a day, don’t beat yourself up for it or feel guilty. Feelings of guilt can lead people to dropping the activity or pushing themselves too hard the next day to the point they get injured. Just take each day as it comes and start slowly so that you can work up to longer runs. If there’s no race you’re training for, there’s no need to compare yourself to others so go out there and have fun!

Whether you’re jogging or running around your neighborhood or preparing for a major marathon, engaging in regular stretching is a great way to stay nimble and healthy. Try to follow an outline of eight stretches (use a combination of the ones we told you about above!) after every run, at least once or twice per week.

If you feel that one muscle or muscle group needs special attention, feel free to practice some of the deeper stretches on them. However, full-body stretches are fine, too. That way, you can target all of your major muscle groups without having to spend a ton of extra time after your run.
